Marcelle was born in Beirut in 1933 as an only child. Her father died when she was still a child and she studied until she was only 10 years old. The relationship with her mother was very complicated. She got married at 13 to leave home. She had five children afterwards, four of whom have since died (1975-1990 civil war, illnesses). Her husband worked as a salesman. When he lost his job during the civil war, Marcelle worked for two years in a hospital in Beirut. Her husband died of a heart attack 30 years ago. Her remaining son cannot help her as much as before the crisis, because he is in a difficult financial situation himself. Her house was badly damaged by the explosion in the port of Beirut. She was able to return to her home with the help of an NGO. One of her neighbors is generously helping her in her daily life. We have been helping Marcelle with food since the fall of 2020.
